Once upon a time..... a meeting story

 In 2016, Guillermo, a passionate visionary, embarked on a quest to bring his imaginative concept to life - The Clowning Laboratory in Edinburgh. This unique idea focused on creating a space for artists of all backgrounds, whether they were seasoned performers or aspiring clowns, to exchange their acting and clowning skills. One fateful day, Guillermo's journey led him to a small cafe, where he encountered Toni, a talented performer with a heart full of dreams and a twinkle in their eye.

As they sipped their coffee and discussed their shared love for the performing arts, Guillermo and Toni realized that their creative energies were perfectly aligned. They decided to join forces and bring The Clowning Laboratory to fruition. With the laboratory open to any performers, clowns, or entertainers willing to share and learn, their weekly workshops held at the Drylaw Community Centre became a source of boundless laughter and artistic growth for all who attended.

In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic separated Guillermo and Toni. Guillermo took to clowning in France and Spain, while Toni crafted the "Webcam Circus" from Glasgow. Reunited in 2023, they channelled their experiences into a new theatre clowning show named "A Wander Fool Word”!

​**OUR SHOW CELEBRATES ITS FIRST YEAR ON TOUR**

This past year has been an exciting journey as our little idea has taken shape and grown! We’re proud to say our project has become a valuable, engaging, and enriching experience for children, teachers, and parents, introducing a second modern language and fostering an appreciation for multiculturalism.

We’ve had the pleasure of adapting our show for various communities, including performances for Edinburgh City Council’s department teaching English to refugees, the French primary school L’école Buissonnière in Glasgow, and on Europe Day at the invitation of l’Alliance Française (see the wonderful video by Monika Smekot above).

In every setting, our show has created a friendly, playful, and welcoming environment. To help reinforce new vocabulary, we’ve also developed a fun, handmade activity sheet for children to color and engage with.

As we enter another year, we’re excited to bring our show to even more families and communities, continuing to share the joy and creativity of this enriching project.
